Results/Recap Spotlight Dance Cup, UCSD 5.12.12

When I received the schedule for Spotlight and realized our call time was 6:30am with a 7:30am stage time, I did not think the performances would be the best of the season.  The team’s odds were further stacked against them when Taylor went down with illness that left him too sick to dance minutes before his first solo.  The team was looking at me with tired and questionable eyes.  I grabbed the two girls that were going on next and told them how proud I was and that despite our nerves and fatigue, that I had a good feeling about this competition… I was right; the Arwen Daniels Dancers have NEVER had as much success at an event as they did at Spotlight. The seven girls persevered and channeled their energy and danced together as a cohesive team; like they wouldn’t trade dancing on that stage for the world. Their smiles lit up the room, gave me chills, and brought the parents to tears. They proved to themselves, and everyone else, that the seven of them are a force that can win with big smiles on their faces. I am so proud of this group; they have handled a lot of big changes this season, and continue to emerge stronger every weekend. The awards were numerous and are listed below:

Bloody Mary (teen small group)
Outstanding Choreography
3rd overall small group
Ruby (high gold)

I Can Transform Ya (teen small group)
2nd overall small group
Diamond (Platinum)

Cosmic Love (junior lyrical solo)
Top 11 year old score of the day
Ruby

Shake it Out (teen jazz solo)
Top 12 year old score of the day
3rd overall solo
Diamond

I was also recognized as one of the top teachers/choreographers. Looking forward to another fantastic experience in Las Vegas at Starbound, May 26th.
